about
“Moving Out” was written in just 90 minutes, but nothing about it feels rushed or superficial.
Since starting the band three years ago, King Kross may not have uploaded more than a handful of highly catchy rock songs to their SoundCloud account, but the four masked guys from Denmark may just be the most exciting thing to carry the label "rock" in recent years. Behind veils of reverb and subtle effects their songs interweave post-punk vibes with murmuring bass lines, sonorous vocals, and that special feel for melody that seems increasingly rare in our age of digital diversity overload.
While still rumbling through the underground, the mysterious four-piece has all the makings of an international success with a cult following. Last year they provided further proof with the release of two demo songs: "Lose Yourself" and "Fear" sound like the wedding of Depeche Mode to Nick Cave—except rewound 30 years back, darker and, paradoxically, more modern. King Kross deserve their very own throne, and construction is well underway.
King Kross wants to be known as the voice of the unheard and as their King. The new single is about coming out of the closet, even ion you are afraid to do so. It was written in only 90 minutes after the lead singer had been talking to a friend who is involved in counseling for the LGBTQIA-segment. He shares their concern and frustration about not being able to be fully free. The band has already proven at several concerts with a huge masked following that their music and lyrics are speaking directly to the outsiders.
On July 12 the band released their official debut single ‘Blackout’ via Danish Celebration Records and they have just returned after playing a highly praised showcase at the industry festival Reeperbahn. The band’s 2nd single ‘Moving Out’ will be released on all streaming services on October 25.
“In this universe the power is yours. Outside we have small Kings and self-proclaimed masters dictate how you shall act and behave, looking down on you. Outside you may feel like a slave to them, but at King Kross we don’t want you to be anyone else but you. Here everything is allowed, also is you choose to be anonymous”, says the lead singer.
When performing live the members of King Kross are all lit from behind, so they appear as silhouettes. A lot of people in the live audience have taken on the anonymity and go to the concert masked or cover some of their faces with bandanas.
“We find it irrelevant what we are called or who we are. This is not about us, it is about the feeling we create and share together at the concert or through our music. It about those showing up to be in the presence with us. King Kross is a feeling and not a single person. I may be him in physical shape, but we are all him. WE ARE ALL KING KROSS!”
lyrics
I’m closing my eyes
i’m calling out to you take me away from here
i’m left in a void
with no were to go, but up take me away from here
Moving Out
We are afraid out of the closet stand tall awake
Moving out
We are afraid out of the closet stand tall awake
I’m losing my mind
with no were to go, but up take me away from here
i’m left in this void
I’m breaking up to see whats new take me away from here
